The Kargil War Memorial at Dras will observe the 26th Kargil Vijay Diwas with a week of commemorative events running from 20 to 26 July 2025. The programme honours the soldiers of Operation Vijay who fell reclaiming the heights of the Drass, Mushkoh, Kaksar and Batalik sub-sectors in the summer of 1999.

Programme of events

The week opens with the lighting of the eternal flame and a ceremonial wreath-laying at the Roll of Honour wall. Guided heritage walks to the foot of the Tololing ridge will run each morning, led by serving officers of the resident formation.

On 26 July, Vijay Diwas itself, a tri-service guard of honour will mount a remembrance parade at the memorial, followed by an address from the Officer-in-Charge and a public reading of the names inscribed on the Roll of Honour.

Visitor information

Entry to the memorial remains free throughout the commemorative week. Visitors are advised to arrive early, carry valid photo identification, and allow extra travel time on National Highway 1 owing to the expected increase in footfall.
