Return to the Ridge: A Veteran Walks Tololing Again

In this video feature, filmed over two days in the Drass sector, a veteran of the Tololing battle returns to the ridge for the first time since 1999. He walks the lower slopes his company climbed under fire and points out, from memory, where the bunkers stood.

The film follows him from the memorial at Dras to the foot of the feature. He stops often — sometimes to catch his breath at altitude, sometimes simply to look. ‘The mountain has not changed,’ he says at one point. ‘Only we have grown old.’
