Wreath-Laying Ceremony Honours the Heroes of Point 4875

A solemn wreath-laying ceremony was held at the Kargil War Memorial, Dras, on 7 July 2025 to mark the anniversary of the capture of Point 4875 in the Mushkoh Valley — the feature since renamed Batra Top in honour of Captain Vikram Batra, PVC.
The ceremony
Serving officers and veterans of the formations that fought in the Mushkoh sub-sector laid wreaths at the Roll of Honour wall. A two-minute silence was observed, followed by the sounding of the Last Post.
Among those present were members of the families of soldiers who fell on and around Point 4875, several of whom had travelled to Dras from across the country for the anniversary.
Remembering Batra Top
The capture of Point 4875 in early July 1999 was among the costliest actions of the war’s final phase. The Officer-in-Charge, in a brief address, reminded those gathered that the renamed feature stands today as a permanent marker on the map — a hill that now carries a soldier’s name.
