War Story

Captured Weapons

Evidence from the Peaks

The Captured Weapon Gallery tells a story that is different from the stories of assault and sacrifice. It is the story of proof. During the Kargil War, enemy positions across the heights yielded weapons, communication sets, mortar shells, documents, identity cards, pay books and currency. These objects were not ordinary battlefield debris. They were evidence of occupation, preparation and direct involvement.

The QR script describes this gallery as a space that exposes deception and lays bare proof of Pakistan’s direct involvement in the Kargil War. Among the most striking exhibits is a 12.7 mm heavy machine gun seized at Point 5140 by Captain Vikram Batra of 13 Jammu & Kashmir Rifles. The gallery also displays communication sets, heavy mortar shells, 120 mm mortars, 82 mm mortars, identity documents and Pakistani currency recovered from enemy camps.

Every item in this gallery once had a purpose against Indian soldiers. A machine gun once fired from a height. A mortar shell once threatened a climbing column. A communication set once linked enemy positions. A document once belonged to a soldier occupying Indian ground. Now all of them stand behind glass, stripped of power but full of meaning.

The Captured Shadows section deepens this story through enemy structures. The enemy igloo shelter taken at Tiger Hill and the enemy sentry post taken at Batra Top were once part of the occupation system. They gave shelter, observation and protection to the intruders. Now they stand as relics of defeat. The QR script specifically records the enemy igloo shelter from Tiger Hill and the enemy sentry post from Batra Top as captured battlefield structures.

This story should be narrated as “truth preserved in metal, paper and steel.” It allows visitors to see the physical evidence of the war. It also honours the soldiers who reached these enemy positions, captured them and turned the enemy’s own material into testimony for history.
