War Memorial

Down Memory Lane

A walk through Down Memory Lane is a step into the heart of battle—a corridor where history breathes. Inaugurated on the 20th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas by Shri Rajnath Singh, this gallery was envisioned by Lt Gen Y.K. Joshi (Retd.), commander of 13 Jammu & Kashmir Rifles during the war, and brought to life by 20 Engineer Regiment. To your left, a grand battlefield model unfolds the war’s intricate topography—enemy intrusions from Mughalpura to the Turtuk sub-sector, the National Highway, the Dras River, and the symbolic aircraft and helicopters of Operation Safed Sagar. Every explosion captured, every movement charted—offering a visual testimony to the fury and precision of Kargil’s battles. To your right, seven defining battles come to life— Batra Top (Point 4875), The assault on Tiger Hill, Zulu Spur’s daring operation, The valiant stand at Tololing Hill, The fierce combat of Point 5140, The high-altitude battle at Point 5770, The decisive engagements in the Batalik sector. This is more than a gallery—it is a pilgrimage of courage, a shrine of sacrifice, and a monument to victory.
