The Helipad: Wings of Courage
You now stand before the helipad, a lifeline of war from where aerial operations were launched during the Kargil War. This very ground saw the whirling blades of hope, carrying warriors into battle and the wounded back to safety. It played a pivotal role during the war, supporting logistic supply, casualty evacuation, reconnaissance, and surveillance missions. After the successful capture of Tololing Hill, it became a vital link in sustaining operations across the battlefield. This helipad is dedicated to Captain Vijayant Thapar (2 Rajputana Rifles), who led his men with fiery determination in the assault on Area Knoll in Dras, achieving victory but laying down his life in the process. For his indomitable courage, he was posthumously awarded the Vir Chakra.
