The MiG-21: Roar of the Sky

Before you stands the MiG-21, an icon of air dominance. On 26th May 1999, it was this very aircraft type that soared through the Kargil skies in Operation Safed Sagar, launching precision airstrikes to aid ground troops. Among those who took to the skies was Squadron Leader Ajay Ahuja, who, in an act of unmatched bravery, re-entered enemy territory to protect a fallen comrade. His aircraft was shot down, and he was captured—but his courage never wavered. For his sacrifice, he was posthumously awarded the Vir Chakra. In 2013, 17 Squadron, Bhatinda, gifted this aircraft to the memorial—an eternal reminder of the warriors who fought not just on land, but in the sky.
